Kabir Hussain

I moved to Norfolk in 2001, over the years I have endeavoured to be involved in the cultural life of the county. I am a sculptor who uses drawing and photography to complement the 3D work. I work in bronze and have 20 years of professional bronze casting experience.

Mapping Norfolk began in 2008; it is a project that explores an area of landscape defined by its county boundary.  This approach allows for a framing of the artistic activity.  The artworks displayed in Mapping Norfolk 2, relate to locations within close proximity to King’s Lynn.  I draw very quickly rarely checking the drawing.  The sculpture also thrives on a sense of immediacy.

Working with the NNAB has been a rewarding experience.  We explored the techniques of carving and casting.  The group enjoyed handling items from the Sainsbury Centre Collection, in response to this we sought to offer our own cultural objects through carving in ‘art soap’.  The plaster casting workshop referenced my sculpture.  I was impressed by the creative input, the understanding of the process and the resultant landscapes produced by the group.
