On Wednesday 16th February the Sainsbury Centre outreach team gave an talk to the Eye Arts Guild in the Eye Community Centre. The themes of the talk included the role of the museum, how outreach works, the culture of the countryside project and how art and objects from all cultures can inspire and have the potential to ‘tell a story’. The evening started with descriptions and anecdotes on the themes with questions and thoughts from the group. Many interesting questions and realisations were expressed. A member called Hilary spoke of her own very special collection of objects from Africa and others put forward ideas about the responsibility of caring for objects, collections, ethics and education. After the initial talk members watched a DVD, looked at contextual images of Papua New Guinea and handled the objects with great interest which promoted discussions of functionality and the type of woods used.
