Global and Local myths

Paul Cope's map

This project started from responses by Halesworth Middle school pupils to the Sainsbury Centre handling collections.
Bridget Cousins and the Culture of the Countryside team shared this work with residents at Beech House in summer 2009 with the aim of writing songs which related to story telling and myths.
Residents handled and responded to artefacts both from Papua New Guinea and from the local area and this experience led to comparisons between different local and global stories.
Lots of memories, knowledge and history of the local area was shared and all the material was pulled together by Bridget Cousins into four beautiful compositions.
The resulting songs will be performed for the first time at The Cut by the Halesworth Community Choir and the project’s results have the potential for further use in schools and communities.
A film of the project was made with the collaboration and training of BBC Voices.
