rain and the connection of agricultural peoples to water

The primary school at Gooderstone chose to work with Pre-Columbian objects as their initial stimulus. Pupils were fascinated by the decoration and symbolism on pots, censers and effigies, which had much to do with rain and the connection of agricultural peoples to water. We also visited the famous Gooderstone Water Gardens, and heard stories from the project artist about water spirits in folk tales from the former Czech Republic. This stimulated work in the afternoon on figures and costumes, resulting in imaginative performances in the school hall.
