A visit to the local church

At Mundford, children enjoyed two days of Sainsbury Centre input. For the first day the stimulus came from a range of forest-related artefacts from Papua New Guinea. This led to a walk to local woodlands and discussions about the importance of the forest in the Breckland area. The art activity allowed visual and tactile responses to be translated into the making of pots, to be fired locally. The wood-carving aspect of relating to world art was picked up on Day 2. This included a visit to the local church, which has an unusual richness in carved wood details. Observation drawing and making rubbings stimulated discussions about symbolism and printmaking activities in the afternoon.
