I am a traditional type farmer from the Saints area of North Suffolk. One of the crops we grow on this farm is thatching straw. For this we use old varieties of wheat which grow much taller than modern high yielding types. Harvested in the old way with a self binder, shocked, carted and stacked before being threshed during the following months.

It was this that drew Justin Partyka to the farm to take photographs for his 'East Anglians' exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre. Leading on from that exhibition I was asked to be part of a panel of other country people at the Culture of the Countryside study day at the Cut in Halesworth. This in turn has led me to be a small part in the continuing U.E.A. project at Wingfield Barns celebrating the heritage of the farm in the modern world.
